About Me:
I grew up in a rural area of Michigan. Attracted to writing early, I attended Young Writer’s Workshops in grade school, was published in Read Magazine as a teen, won the trophy for the best creative arts exhibit at the Oakland County 4-H fair with my poetry, and won both the short fiction and poetry categories in the Oxford, Michigan public library writing contest while an undergraduate. But I put aside my writing aspirations to study science. An honored student, I was one of Michigan State University’s institutional Danforth nominees, and received honorable mention in the National Science Foundation scholarship competition. I completed my Ph.D. in applied mathematics at the University of Maryland, supported in part by fellowships. I worked for the U.S. Government for nearly 25 years. I authored or co-authored a number of published scientific papers, became an Intelligence Community Officer, and received many honors, including a Hammer award. My short story, Making Cats, was published in the inagural issue of SLiterary. I freelance for the AvaStar.
